Job Summary:
Greets patient and initiates the registration process either by phone or in person. Communicate professionally with patients, families, physicians and insurance companies on daily basis. Collect co-pays and deductibles if applicable. Practice and maintain HIPAA rules and regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Must be able to learn a variety of software programs including but not limited to Microsoft Outlook, Word, EMR system, Greenway, internet/insurance web sites, as well as various programs.
- Schedule patient appointments
- Obtain and verify all required patient demographic and insurance information to ensure accurate and timely reimbursement
- Obtain all necessary signatures
- Explain insurance process to patients and collect any co-pay if applicable prior to procedure(s)
- Answer telephones in a courteous and professional manner
- Appropriately acknowledge patient’s arrival and departure
- Obtain new patient information and enter into the system correctly
- Create chart for new patients
- Verify demographics upon admission to include correct address, phone number, insurance information and emergency contact number
- Obtain appropriate paperwork/signatures from the patient at each visit
- Schedule, coordinate and re-schedule appointments according to departmental guidelines, as needed
- Collect co-pays and payments, issuing a receipt
- Reconcile money drawer and credit card machine
- Compile daily report and forwards to supervisor
- Transfer calls to the appropriate personnel
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participate in other assigned duties as designated by Department Manager
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work performed in an office/clinic settings
Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and move about facilities
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
Work environment may present exposure to viruses, disease and infection
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Possesses skills and knowledge in the following areas:
- Basic Computer skills
- Knowledge of health insurance terms and processes
- Familiar with outpatient procedures
- Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology
Education and Experience:
High school graduate or equivalent
Prefer one year previous experience in a healthcare environment with familiarity and knowledge of medical terminology
