Medical Lab Technologist – MLT or MT

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of a Laboratory Manager, obtains specimens from patients and performs established clinical tests and procedures.  Interprets test results.  Performs instrument and equipment maintenance.  Performs analytical QC on all systems as required.  OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Class I.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education: Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.  Minimum of an AAS in Laboratory Science.
• Must have appropriate education and training in an accredited MLT program.
• Must have Associate Degree based on a course of study including those subjects from an accredited institution.
• Has a satisfactory grade in proficiency examination approved by H. H. S., must run all CAP studies, testing must be performed on all tests run in the laboratory.
• Maintain C. E. U. requirements to remain in compliance with Limestone Medical Center.
• Perform and monitor daily quality control and quality assurance procedures in accordance with LMC policy.
• Perform laboratory analysis including blood banking, hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, microscopic examinations and other manual procedures on all patients.
• Perform all required maintenance on all laboratory instruments.
• Maintain inventory of adequate supplies for laboratory functions.
• Perform phlebotomy as needed.
• Personal Job-Related Skills: Ability to calculate test results and effective oral and written communication abilities.
• Licensure, Registry or Certification: Registered as a Medical Laboratory Technician, ASCP or equivalent or registry eligible.
• Prior Work Experience: One year in a medical laboratory preferred.
• Technical Training: None required.
• Physical and Mental Requirements:  Duties of the position require moderate periods of sitting and standing, lifting up to 30 pounds.  Must be able to hear equipment alarms and have vision to read labeling, instructions and to conduct tests.
