Job summary

The dietary cashier is responsible for accurately handling all customer food and beverage transactions and providing a positive experience for every customer. The cashier also assists with setting up meal service, stocking supplies, and ensuring a sanitary dining environment.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Handle payments: Operate a cash register, process cash, credit card, and debit card transactions.
  • Dining room maintenance: Ensure the dining area is tidy and clean by wiping down counters and tables, especially during meal hours.
  • Provide customer service: Greet customers, answer questions, and assist with their needs in a polite and friendly manner.
  • Stock: Restocking items and supplies as needed and keep cafeteria supplied with utensils, napkins, cups, condiments, and other items.

Key duties and tasks

  • Knowledge of menu and dietary needs: Stay informed about menu items and potential allergen or dietary information and communicate with the kitchen team as needed.
  • Food service assistance: Assist with setting up and serving meals in the cafeteria.
  • Operational support: During downtime, you may be asked to assist with other departmental tasks.
  • Maintain sanitary standards: Ensure compliance with all food handling, safety, and sanitation regulations.

Work environment and physical requirements

  • Physical demands: You can expect extended periods of standing and walking. The job also requires bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Pace: The position operates in a sometimes fast-paced environment, so the ability to work quickly and efficiently is essential.
  • Exposure to hazards: The work environment may occasionally expose the employee to cleaning chemicals and a moderate noise level.
