Job Summary:
Obtain appointments for clinic specialty and hospital ancillary services as directed by the clinic providers. Maintains confidentiality on all patient information to assure patients’ rights are protected according to HIPAA rules and regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Schedule, reschedule, and coordinate specialist & hospital ancillary services appointments within required time frames.
- Obtain pre-authorization as required by patients’ health insurance plan.
- Notify patient by phone or mail of appointment date and time with any special instructions or preparations required for the appointment or procedure.
- Forward necessary medical information and authorizations to the specialty provider/facility.
- Maintain required records, logs and files.
- Provide patients with courteous and informative answers to questions regarding specialists, ancillary services, appointments, procedures and costs.
- Initiate appropriate resolution for all patient issues.
- Is included in front desk rotation
- Is including in closing rotation
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participates in other assigned duties as designated by Clinic Director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Possesses skills and knowledge in the following areas:
- Must be able to read and write the English language in a legible and understandable manner.
- Must possess basic computer skills.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such actions.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with patients, physicians, insurance companies and personnel.
- Must be knowledgeable of medical practices and procedures, insurance plans.
- Must understand the importance of HIPAA rules and regulations.
- Must have knowledge of CPT and ICD diagnostic and procedural coding
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred 1-year medical records exposure in a healthcare environment.
