Phlebotomist

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, assists with the obtaining of patient specimens and medical laboratory testing.

OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Class I.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education: High School graduate or equivalent.
• Personal Job Related Skills: Ability to learn technical procedures involved in laboratory testing.
• Licensure, Registry or Certification: Registered Phlebotomist ASCP, AMT (not required but preferred)
• Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require moderate periods of sitting and standing, lifting up to thirty (30) pounds.  Must be able to hear equipment alarms and have vision to read labeling, instructions, and to conduct tests.  The ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.

EXPERIENCE:

• Prior Work Experience: One year experience in a medical setting preferred.
• Technical Training: None required.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT REQUIREMENTS:

• Maintains HIPAA required and all other confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
• Provides service directly to patients while maintaining a positive patient relations atmosphere.
• Follows procedures for using precautions when involved in direct patient contact or when handling potentially infectious materials.
• Follows safety guidelines and policies of Limestone Medical Center.
