Advanced Nurse Practitioner
Location: Rettig Family Health Clinic
Job Summary:
Serves as a health care provider in the Rettig Family Health Clinic to provide nursing and medical services to children, adults, families and groups. This care includes diagnosing and managing acute episodic and chronic illnesses. In addition, emphasizes health promotion and disease prevention. Provides services including but not limited to ordering, conducting, supervising and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests and prescription of pharmacologic agents and not pharmacologic therapies. Teaches and counsels as important parts of providing care. Works autonomously and in collaboration with health care professionals and other individuals to diagnose, treat and manage the patient’s health problems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs initial assessment of patients to include collection and documenting of vital signs, chief complaint, history, allergies, current medication, results of laboratory, x-ray reports, and/or procedures and other information deemed pertinent by the physician to be included in the patient record
- Provide assistance to medical providers during examination and treatment of patients, including invasive procedures and giving various injections as ordered
- Maintains medication room with adequate levels of updated medication, monitors expiration dates on all medication and supplies, and stores and administers medication according to manufactures guidelines.
- Follows procedures when distributing samples, calling in prescriptions, and obtaining physician approval on refills.
- Assist with specimen collection and appropriate laboratory techniques to complete the required diagnostic tests as well as performing waived lab testing.
- Maintains a safe and positive environment for patients, customers, self, and other employees
- Prepares equipment and instruments for sterilization according to policy
- Maintains records, reports, statistics, logs, etc, as required
- Adhere to clinic dress code, wearing your badge. Identify yourself to patients and customers on the phone and in person. Responds to phone calls and messages in a timely manner
- Attends necessary meetings and takes responsibility for content if absent. Maintains professional growth and participates in additional training as needed. Attends meetings on time.
- Obtain supplies to keep exam and procedure rooms stocked, insuring a standard location and an adequate level of supplies. Participates in cost control measures and charges for utilized items.
- Cleans and sets up examination rooms between patient exams. Controls patient flow between exam rooms, lab, x-ray, and other required procedures.
- Assist with daily operation including answering the telephone, scheduling appointments, and other duties as assigned.
- Performs nursing care in accordance with Nursing Standards of Care, Quality Assurance Criteria, and policy and procedure guidelines
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis(HIPPA).
Follows Universal Precautions when involved in direct patient contact or handling potentially infectious material. Complies with the Center for Disease Control guidelines and Infection Control Policy and Procedures.
Participate in other assigned duties as designated by Clinic Manager
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work performed in an office setting.
Subject to long, irregular hours.
Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and move about facilities
Ability to perform duties under stressful situations
Requires manual dexterity to operate a keyboard, telephone, and other equipment
Speech and hearing must be in normal range for telephone contact
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
May be exposed to virus, disease and infection from patients and specimens in working environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Possesses skills and knowledge in the following areas:
Able to use a computer and learn software programs including Electronic Medical Record System
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Knows and adheres to applicable regulatory and statutory requirements
- Knows and adheres to Little River policy and procedures
- Knowledge and application of nursing standards of practice promulgated by the Board of Nurse Examiners.
Education and Experience:
Education:
Graduate of an accredited Master’s level school of Professional Nursing.
Personal Job-Related Skills: Demonstrated skills in nursing practice, leadership and management abilities and effective oral and written communication skills. Abilities in counseling and clinical assessment. Ability to plan and coordinate patient care. Conversational Spanish preferred.
Licensure, Registry or Certification: Registered Nurse currently licensed by the State of Texas. BCLS required and ACLS preferred. Recognized as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the Texas Board of Nursing.
Prior Work Experience: One year experience in nursing and one year in a supervisory role.
Technical Training: Advanced training in the provision of primary health and medical care.
Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require extended period of standing and walking. Bending, stooping twisting, reaching and lifting up to 25 pounds. Occasional heavy lifting when moving or supporting patients who may suddenly
