JOB TITLE:                           Community Outreach Educator

DEPARTMENT:                    Emergency Department

JOB SUMMARY:         The Community Outreach Educator is responsible for delivering impactful educational programs and outreach initiatives to raise awareness about opioid use, addiction, and prevention strategies. This role also involves managing grant-funded projects, ensuring proper tracking of funds, compliance with grant requirements, and reporting usage to stakeholders.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational Background: Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing.

Skills:

  • Public Speaking & Presentation Skills – Ability to convey important opioid education topics clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Community Engagement – Strong relationship-building abilities to connect with local organizations, healthcare providers, and individuals.
  • Grant Management & Tracking – Knowledge of grant application processes, compliance, financial reporting, and fund utilization.
  • Strong Written Communication – Competency in preparing reports, grant proposals, newsletters, and educational materials.

Licensure, Registry or Certification: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) by the State of Texas.

Experience: Minimum of two years of experience as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse. Knowledge of opioid addiction, treatment options, and harm reduction strategies.

Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require moderate physical activity. Extended periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, and lifting when moving or supporting patients/employees who suddenly become weak or helpless.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:

  1. Opioid Education & Outreach:
  • Develop and implement educational programs on opioid prevention, harm reduction, and recovery resources.
  • Conduct community workshops, training sessions, and public presentations.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, local organizations, schools, and community groups to expand outreach.
  • Create informational materials, including brochures, newsletters, and social media content, to promote opioid awareness.
  • Provide support and referrals for individuals seeking addiction recovery services.
  1. Grant Tracking & Management:
  • Oversee the administration of opioid-related grants, ensuring compliance with funding guidelines.
  • Monitor grant expenditures, tracking fund usage to maintain accurate records.
  • Prepare financial reports and progress summaries for stakeholders and grant providers.
  1. Event Participation: Participate in planning and executing employee skills fairs, vaccination clinics, and community outreach programs.
  2. Additional Duties: Complete any task or duties assigned by the supervisor.
