Amy Oakes Silar was born and raised in Freestone County. She is a 1996 graduate of Teague High School and still a proud lion. Mrs. Silar started her college education at Sam Houston State University. She graduated with her bachelor degree in elementary education in 2000 and shortly after, married her husband Matt. Mrs. Silar taught public school for 8 years in Teague. She decided to change careers and dove right in, working during the day and attending college at night. With two young sons, nursing school was a family commitment. Mrs. Silar graduated with her bachelor degree in nursing in 2012, where she received the Most Caring Nurse Award from the college of nursing.  Completing nursing school was a win for her boys, her husband and her parents, as they were all her anchors and greatest support during this season.  After receiving her BSN, Mrs. Silar was introduced to the Groesbeck community through Texas Home Health, where she was an RN in the field for them for many years and had the opportunity to build some great relationships. In December 2020, Mrs. Silar received her master’s degree in nursing from the University of Texas in Arlington and received national certification through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Mrs. Silar is working with Mrs. Dori Sims, PA and Dr. Jeffrey Rettig at the Rettig Family Health Clinic. Mr. Matt Silar is employed by Patriot Inspection in Mexia. The Silar family attends 8th Ave. Baptist in Teague and they reside in Freestone with their horses, dogs and family close by. Their sons, Wes and Korey, are the light of their lives. Mrs. Silar counts it a huge blessing to have the opportunity to serve as an NP in Groesbeck!
